uffizi room 58 di andrea del sarto
Continuing through the exhibition, we find room 58, entirely dedicated to the works of Andrea del Sarto, which were housed in room 26 in the previous set up. Among the most prominent paintings are the Madonna of the Harpies, given this name due to the monstrous creatures on the pedestal, in which the artist, like Raphael, created a remarkable, monumental but simpler composition; the figures were rendered with the greatest tenderness and dignity, with intensification of the chiaroscuro, but missing, however, the extraordinary realism attained by Raphael.
In the Vallombrosa Altarpiece the monumental design is even more accentuated, although the classical lines of symmetry and centrality are observed.
